Z/2ZoneTwo

FAQ

Common questions.

What ZoneTwo is, how it works, and what it won’t do. Short answers with links to the relevant guide or feature page.

How does ZoneTwo work?

You connect your Strava account once. ZoneTwo reads the last 60 days of activities, computes training stress (TSS), fitness (CTL), fatigue (ATL), and form (TSB). Every Sunday an AI coach generates a structured weekly review with a prescribed plan for the next 1–4 weeks. A conversational AI chat is available any time between reviews.

Which sports does it support?

Running, cycling (road, gravel, indoor trainer, virtual), swimming, and triathlon. If you do two or more, ZoneTwo models them as combined load — shared fatigue and cross-discipline monotony — not three separate sports.

Do I need a power meter or GPS watch?

No, but the analysis gets more accurate with them. With a power meter (cycling) or threshold pace (running) we compute Coggan power-TSS or Friel rTSS. Without them, we fall back to HR-based TRIMP and flag the lower confidence in every review.

How often does the plan update?

The plan regenerates every Sunday evening (cron job) and also when you open the dashboard after 7 days or 5 new activities. You can also trigger a fresh analysis manually. Day-to-day, your readiness score and heatmap update in real time as new activities come in.

What does it cost?

Free during beta. We’ll announce pricing before the beta ends, well in advance, with a founder discount for beta users. No credit card required to start.

Can ZoneTwo replace a human coach?

For most amateur athletes training 4–10 hours a week without a national team contract, it can — at a tiny fraction of the cost. A human coach wins when you need injury assessment, goal-race race-plan psychology, or technique feedback. ZoneTwo wins on data discipline, 24/7 availability, and honesty about its limits. See the comparison with human-coach platforms.

Is it safe? Can the AI hurt my training?

Safety is enforced by a deterministic rule engine that runs before and after the AI — not by the AI itself. Rules check for acute load spikes, prolonged negative TSB, high monotony, and cross-sport overload. When a rule fires, the AI is forced to respond to it and can’t invent rules. Conservative bias means we recommend rest over load when uncertain.

What data do you store and for how long?

We store your Strava activities, computed metrics, weekly reviews, and chat history. Raw activities are retained for 1 year then archived as aggregates. Weekly reviews and chat are retained indefinitely so the coach has continuity. You can delete your account any time, and everything goes with it. Read the privacy policy for details.

Will you add Garmin Connect / Apple Health / other sources?

Strava first. Garmin Connect is the most likely second integration because many of our users push Garmin → Strava anyway; direct Garmin would add sleep and HRV data for a fuller readiness score. Apple Health requires a native mobile app, which is post-MVP. No other platform integrations are planned for the beta.

Will the AI give me medical or nutrition advice?

No. Medical diagnosis, injury treatment, medication dosing, and nutrition prescriptions are outside what ZoneTwo does, by design. The coach will recognize these questions and point you to a qualified professional. Training load is the scope.
